STARTING Spring Off Right

While most of us who have dared to ride in less than comfortable water know...it sucks! Stiff joints, unforgiving water , and the need to keep our numbing fingers out of the frigid, all come to mind as we think about shredding the springtime gnar. For those daring souls, many creative attempts for launch have been commenced. I've heard of and witnessed a myriad of ideas...what's your? Feel free to share pics and all stories of your Start.

A city of 1,000,000 people and no skatepark???

That's right you've read it right, Birmingham, Alabama does not have a park. Below is a link to the petition site for doing your share to help a city in need of a place for people to skate.

Indy Cars in Bama

So, this past weekend marked the inaugural Indy Grand Prix of Alabama hosted at Barber's Motorsport Park. He's a few photos to share with you.

Skateboard Animation

Vimeo's an awesome place. It always has new cool, nifty videos everyday to help me pass the time by. Everyday I find new things that intrigue me, and when I saw this skate animation this morning, I was hooked. Being a videographer, I know this short clip took a lot of patience and time to make it come together. Mad props to Tilles Singer for making this and taking things out of the box. If you've got time to waste in the office, or just want to watch cool videos, check out more of his stuff. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Steller New Establishment

Sure there are plenty of places to go and have an adult beverage or 3 and chill to some tunes in Bham, but none quite like this one.

Sir Robert, myself, and some cronies enjoyed some great times at Parkside Cafe the other night. Being my first visit, I was impressed.

Parkside Cafe sits a little Northeast of town on 5th Ave South and 41st Street, just across the street from Avondale Park. Upon waking in and looking around I got a feeling of nice feeling of comfort. Not sure if it was the rustic wooden floors, globe party lights, or the crisp smell of stupid cheap PBR pitchers. The crowd was super diverse from your typical Birmingham "old southerners", trendy city slickers, and artsy laybacks to name a few. As your near the backside of the building you enter a quaint courtyard (you know the kind your Mom always made you pick weeds out of) which opens up to an array of chill outdoor seating options.

Sound like your same 'ole place? Here's the Kicker my friends...

Stashed in the back corner of the courtyard, like your favorite ice cream in the freezer, resides The Dart Room. The Dart Room is basically like your buddy's garage with select posters and wall art we all wish we'd never given away. Equipped with a dart board, bumper pool table and a schooner port window to keep a creepy eye on the Cutie you can't build up the courage to talk to. To top it all, the Dart Room employs a stand alone receiver to plug up your favorite jams!

To sum up Parkside in one phrase: A stellar house party without the cons...running out of beer, noise complaints, and lack of bathroom accessibility.
